Dr Ben Walker is an internationally recognised tax expert and a leading practitioner in New Zealand.
He advises high net worth individuals and families, international investors, cross-border funds and property developers on complex New Zealand tax matters.
Ben has substantial offshore tax experience and works closely with Australian and US families moving to New Zealand, drawing on his practical cross-border experience and his study of US & Australian tax law as part of his master’s degree. He works with a substantial amount of Active Investor Plus (AIP) investors and other people relocating to New Zealand covers tax residence, transitional residence, overseas trusts and companies, investment structures, and the interaction of tax rules across jurisdictions. Ben also advises cross-border investment funds on New Zealand tax structuring and investor reporting. On the property side, his work includes large-scale developments, land acquisitions, development structures, GST, and the tax treatment of sales and investment returns.
Ben holds a PhD and an LLM in International Tax Law from Vienna University , as well as a Bachelor of Laws & BCom from the University of Otago. Before joining McCulloch & Partners, he worked in Big Four and other international tax roles. He is fluent in German, lectures in international tax at the University of Auckland, and participates in Inland Revenue consultation groups on tax policy and guidance. Ben is a Barrister and Solicitor of the High Court of New Zealand.
