Greg firmly believes that a good accountant needs to be in partnership with their client “We work together, through good times and bad, and when there are difficulties, we deal with them together”. He prides himself on his ability to find practical solutions to complicated advisory matters while helping clients understand difficult areas such as tax, enabling them to grasp a deeper understanding of their businesses’ inner workings. As an advisor, Greg has a widespread client base across all industries, particularly in aviation, forestry, fishing and tourism.
Commencing in 1994 as a graduate accountant, Greg left McCulloch & Partners in 1998 to complete his big OE. While in London, he worked in various treasury roles that gave him a different perspective and new challenges. This experience he put to good use on his return home in 2001. Greg knew that he wanted to continue working at McCulloch & Partners, having found it a supportive and challenging place to work – It wasn’t just data entry! He was drawn back to the culture and the people. In 2006 Greg made partnership and has continued to grow as an accountant ever since. He has even been the company secretary/accountant of Blue Sky Meats for the past 21 years. There is never a dull moment in the meat industry.
With an outstanding career and contribution to the industry, Greg has recently been awarded a Fellowship of the Chartered Accountants of Australia New Zealand.
Sharing joint responsibility with Kieran Middleton, Greg visits the Te Anau office fortnightly. He enjoys meeting with clients across a diverse range of industries, making it a personal goal to get out of the office and see clients’ businesses as much as possible.
Outside of being a busy Partner, Greg is passionate about giving back to the community, particularly in sporting codes that he played for in his younger days. Born and bred in Southland, Greg is married to Pip, and they have three boys. In his spare time, between family activities, Greg still supports and plays the odd game of cricket for Appleby during the summer months, as well as supporting the successful Woodlands Rugby club.
